Earlier today, LeBron James posted this to Facebook setting the internet on fire throwing his hat in to the ring to dress for a Liverpool side that will again be in North America next week to take on Chelsea in Pasadena and AC Milan in Santa Clara as part of the International Champions Cup series.
Savvy business / marketing move coming from Team James, who is also an investor in the Fenway Sports Group, the American parent company which owns Liverpool FC. Back in 2011 LeBron as his team became a marketing partner with FSG.
Obviously around these parts we are big fans of cross sports interests and promotion and the NBA has housed some of the biggest footy fans. It will be curious to see if LeBron will now because the belt holder for soccer in the NBA as we’ve seen Steve Nash and Kobe, two huge soccer supporters step away from the hardwood into retirement and other things.
Kobe, as you all probably noticed really stepped up this summer with Copa, producing and narrating some content with Fox, and given his passion, Mamba FC, and his daughters love for the game, we may see him a little more involved now that he’s not shooting hoops.
